Sportiness sells. And it doesn't even have to be sporty. If something just gives the illusion, that's usually enough for the buying public.

How else can you explain "Sport" stickers on minivans, the most mundane conveyance known to man?

For motorcyclists, the sport and fun factor is a huge part of why we ride and Yamaha knows this, as evidenced by the cutting edge R1 and R6 sportbikes. Many riders like their bikes to look sporty but aren't interested in their extreme riding position, focused nature and higher costs.
Yamaha's 2009 FZ6R has the appearance of a hypersport motorcycle, yet boasts comfortable ergonomics in an easy-to-ride package that retails for a bargain $8,799.

Yamaha FZ6R - Proof That Fun Can Also Be Comfortable

By Cameron C Martel

When Yamaha released the FZ6R to the public earlier this year I was quick to review it. I hastily found a brand new one, barely a week out of its crate, and went to work. Over the course of half a day I flogged the bike through corners, around treacherous terrain (bumpy roads, gravel, etc.), up and down hills, through the mountains, and then back into good old city riding. It as a memorable half day, as the Yamaha FZ6R would become one of my all time favorite casual motorcycles.

What is a "Casual" Motorcycle?

Unlike the Yamaha R6, which is a super-sport motorcycle, the Yamaha FZ6R has certain conveniences that make it appealing for new and experienced riders alike. It has a more upright riding position, with less lean to the handle bars. This makes it more comfortable to sit on and ride, and after nearly half a day of abuse and hard riding my back still wasn't sore. On the R6 my back would have been killing me within an hour.

Before even throwing a leg over the new 2009 Yamaha FZ6R, we couldn't help but think that this bike fits neatly into the burgeoning entry-level sportbike category and is just the kind of motorcycle that most Americans would be better off purchasing than a bike from the more popular supersport category. Generally speaking, though today's crop of 600cc race-replica motorcycles.

Yamaha FZ6R are tons of fun to ride in a proper setting, there are few if any circumstances where it's necessary to have a machine capable of topping 160 mph or accelerating to 60 in around three seconds on public roads. With this in mind, we had very high hopes for Yamaha's latest middleweight sportbike.

Yamaha FZ6R Review

2009 Yamaha FZ6R Review

By Cameron C Martel

If you find yourself bored on Sunday afternoon, and if the weather permits, you may soon be wishing you had something that was fun and exciting to do. A motorcycle, they say, is the most fun you will ever have on the ground. As an avid cyclist, and as someone who just loves having a good time, I couldn't agree more. This brings me back to the before mentioned Sunday afternoon, where the sun is shining and the weather is sweet. What's missing from this picture?

Ah, yes, the Yamaha FZ6R.

This new-for-2009 sport bike isn't really a sport bike at all, but rather a comfortable and competent entry-level machine that is a step above the Kawasaki Ninja 500 (the de facto standard for learner bikes) in both looks and performance. Compared to other entry level motorcycles, the Yamaha FZ6R is jam packed with personality.

The '09 Yamaha FZ6R

We Take A Quick Spin On The '09 Yamaha FZ6R

Yamaha recently invited us to sample its all-new FZ6R, a bike designed for entry-level sportbike fans who are looking for something that is affordable, comfortable, stylish and, perhaps most importantly, offers "R"- (as in R6-) like performance. After spending a few hours zipping around the back roads of Northern California's wine country on the FZ6R, we came away quite impressed with the bike that we feel will not only appeal to new riders, but will also keep intermediate and experienced sportbike enthusiasts quite happy on their daily commute and weekend blowing-off-steam rides.
